Tips to Reduce Glare While Driving at Night
Posted on July 21st, 2017 by WPO-admin
Do you find yourself avoiding night driving because of the crazy glare? Do you regularly get beamed by headlights that leave you not seeing the lines on the road? Well, you’re not alone; night glare can be frustrating, but luckily there are many ways to avoid it. So to stop the squinting and start seeing clearly, here’s what you can do to make your next night drive a safe and enjoyable one:
Adjust Your Mirrors
One thing you can do is make sure all your mirrors are correctly adjusted. You want both side mirrors to be adjusted to where the side of your car is barely visible. To adjust the driver side mirror, lean your head on the window, for the passenger’s side, while you are in the driver seat, lean towards your right and keep your head in the center of the vehicle.
Avoid Oncoming Traffic
Improper headlight position can also cause headlight glare. So next time a bright light blinds you from an oncoming car, change your focus. You can look to your right and shift your focus to the white lines that separate the lane with the shoulder. Use your peripheral vision as much as possible.
Keep Glass Clear and Clean
So what’s one of the best way to avoid the blinding glare — keep your windshield clean! With streaks and dirt on your windshield, the light that hits them will scatter leaving you with a nasty glare. Clean the inside and outside of your windshield with a glass cleaner and be sure to dry it fully with a microfiber towel. A clean windshield will increase your visibility, and significantly reduce your chance of night glare.
