When you think of summer protection, we often think of sunscreen and skin care, but what about your car? The summer heat can pay a toll on several parts of your vehicle, and without proper preparation, it can leave you with an expensive and unnecessary repair. So when it comes to your car, here’s what you need to know about the summer heat:

Check Your Tires

When there is a drastic weather change, you’ll always to keep your tire pressure in check. Hot pavement does not mix well with hot tires and can be a recipe for disaster. To prevent a blowout or worse, check your tires once a month and replace worn out ones when necessary.

Don’t Skimp on The Oil

Oil changes should be part of your regular maintenance, but this becomes even more relevant come the hot summer months. A hot engine will need oil to run, so keeping on top of its regular schedule can keep your car running at its absolute best. Just make sure you are using the recommended oil and changing it according to the recommended mileage.

It Can Kill Your Battery

Temperature plays a big part in your battery’s life span. Whether it’s too cold or too hot, extreme temperatures can cause your battery to expire sooner than it should. To make sure you aren’t stranded without a jump, keep jumper cables in your trunk and regularly check that your battery fluid is always filled.

The Windshield Can Suffer

Extreme temperature changes can often put stress on your windshield and at times cause damage. To prevent warping or major shatters, don’t let little cracks go unrepaired and be mindful of blasting the AC. The high outdoor temperatures mixed with a cold blast can be a shock to your windshield. So keep that in mind the next time you are trying to cool off your car.
